17th International Elephant Conservation and Research Symposium

November 15-21, 2021

The pressures on wild populations of elephants are increasing at an alarming rate. Wildlife habitat continues to shrink while human-elephant conflict increases. Conservationists and researchers around the world strive to protect the remaining animals and habitat.

We invite global elephant conservationists and researchers to present conservation projects and research outcomes, new technologies in field conservation and conflict mitigation, studies in disease, reproduction and behavior, and other issues that impact the long-term survival of African and Asian elephants.

It is with great disappointment that due to the continuing ongoing pandemic we will not be able to meet in person for this year’s International Elephant Conservation and Research Symposium. BUT we are planning a multi-day virtual symposium with presentations and opportunities for information sharing and discussion. This year we are also planning focused sessions on human-elephant conflict mitigation techniques, school and community education programs, and habitat recovery activities.

At our 17th International Elephant Conservation and Research Symposium, we invite elephant conservationists and researchers from around the world to present. As in years past we would like presentations covering all aspects of Asian, African, and Forest elephant conservation and research outcomes, new technologies in field conservation and conflict mitigation, studies in disease, reproduction and behavior, and other issues that impact the long-term survival of elephants.

We are now accepting abstracts for consideration for the program.

All abstract submissions can be submitted via THIS FORM (download pdf) and must include the abstract.

The abstract should bewritten as a mini-version of the paper and should contain enough information to allow evaluation of the presentation. Abstracts (no more than 500 words) should be sent to the following:
Deborah Olson, Executive Director; Sarah Conley, Conservation Coordinator.

Please include “Elephant Symposium Abstract” in the subject line.

  1. Abstracts must be received by October 1, 2021, to be eligible for inclusion in the program. A notice of acceptance will be provided no later than October 15, 2021.
  2. All presentations will be pre-recorded and then broadcast during the symposium. We ask that presenters be available on the virtual platform during the session in which they are broadcast for questions after their presentation.
  3. In keeping with the symposium goal of sharing information, all PowerPoints presented by speakers will be converted to PDFs and become part of the proceedings downloadable from the International Elephant Foundation website following the conclusion of the symposium.
  4. Speakers who would like to contribute a complete written version of the paper for the proceedings must submit it to [email protected] by November 1, 2021.
