Habitat Fragmentation Monitoring and Community Capacity Building for Elephant Conservation in Kafta-Sheraro National Park, Tigray Ethiopia

The elephant population in the Kafta-Sheraro National Park is declining and the habitat is becoming increasingly fragmented. In order to understand the causes of the fragmentation and elephant population decline, this project is identifying functional areas of habitat, ecological barriers, and habitat connectivity in the region. Local communities and key stakeholders are also receiving education and capacity building programs aimed at reducing human wildlife conflict in the park. The overall goal is to provide scientific evidence to inform the policy making process and lead to a comprehensive management plan.
