Developing Effective Methods of Semen Cryopreservation for the Captive Asian Elephant

The use of artificial insemination can help overcome many of the difficulties associated with breeding elephants in captivity. This study investigated an effective protocol for the cryopreservation of Asian elephant semen reducing the need of large numbers of breeding bulls and allowing the introduction of new genetic material from wild populations.
