Disrupting Ivory Trafficking Networks in Lambaréné, Gabon

Gabon is home to approximately 95,110 African forest elephants, representing 70% of the global population, which face acute threats from poaching and habitat loss. Illegal ivory trade in the region is being targeted through intelligence‑led investigations—ten focused probes using trained investigators, undercover agents, and informants to gather evidence on traffickers, routes, and storage sites—with the goal of confirming at least three networks moving ivory via the Ogooué River; three joint arrest operations to apprehend major traffickers; full legal follow‑through on at least two prosecutions; and national media outreach to deter crime and promote coexistence in partnership with OELO, collectively helping dismantle trafficking networks and strengthen long‑term human–elephant coexistence.
