Gnrh Vaccination as a Potential Way to Control Fertility and Androgen Driven Behavior in African and Asian Elephant Bulls

A solitary life, increased aggression and the periods of musth characterize the mature bulls’ behavior. These attributes constantly cause problems in captive and sometimes in free-ranging male elephants. By monitoring the antibody titer, physiological and behavioral changes, the reproductive tract, semen quality and hormonal changes it was found that reversible chemical castration using a GnRH vaccine in elephant bulls is a simple successful contraception method.
