The Use of directional Freezing for the Cryopreservation of Elephant Semen for use in Artificial Insemination

In order for artificial insemination programs to be more feasible on a widespread basis, the collection and preservation of high quality semen must be improved. The novel directional freezing technology provides a means to maintain a high percentage of normal sperm parameters that cannot be accomplished by conventional cryopreservation methods. This project evaluated directional freezing technology and developed repeatable protocols.
