Ivory Demand Reduction through Focused Investigations Community Engagement & Strengthened Capacities, Cambodia

Despite much progress being made, Cambodia remains a potential source and a transit country for illegal wildlife products including ivory, and a destination country for African elephant ivory shipments largely intended for Chinese nationals doing business in the region. To address this problem, the Kouprey Express and the civilian investigation unit of the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team are working to reduce threats to Asian elephants and reduce demand for ivory through focused investigations and empowering youth and communities to make sustainable choices about Cambodia’s natural resources. This grassroots action builds capacity while educating and raising awareness in order to reduce demand for ivory and build long-term conservation ethic.
