Training Village Dogs for Wildlife Protection, Zambia
Building upon the existing CLZ/DNPW K9 Unit, this project is investigating whether locally sourced dogs from villages can be trained to effectively perform the conservation activities of tracking and detection of illegal wildlife products and whether they will be better suited physically to manage the environmental risks in Africa like extreme heat and local diseases than expensive trained dogs sourced from Europe.
