Poachers do not travel by road therefore tracking them (and catching them) requires going deep into habitats where it is difficult to find one’s way. Handheld GPS units help patrols and rapid response teams know where to go, monitor hotspots, and record accurate locations of what they find. This data helps patrols be more effective and can shape future conservation efforts like determining need for ranger stations.
