Guinea Forest Elephants

The Ziama Biosphere Reserve is the largest classified forest in Guinea and provides vital habitat for threatened and endangered species including the Western Chimpanzee, the Pygmy Hippopotamus, and African Forest Elephants.  Building on previous IEF-funded work, this project supports the monitoring of Ziama’s forest elephants which migrate to areas in Liberia and the Ivory Coast.  Using satellite tracking collars, education campaigns, strengthening capacity to prosecute wildlife offences, and training stakeholders increases sustainable security improvements for elephants.
