The effect of community workshops and elephant movements on Human-elephant conflict (HEC), Kenya
Building upon the work done on elephant deterrents in partnership with Dr. Bruce Schulte, this project expanded local outreach via a regional workshop program focusing on the key drivers of HEC. Using community collected data on elephant movements and crop raiding, the effects of deterrents were assessed to develop and inform management strategies for communities living with elephants. Six Kenyan villages received workshops with information on alternative livelihoods, community capacity building, improved Climate Smart farming techniques, and education on how to safely live among elephants.
