Today is Endangered Species Day—a moment to reflect on what it means for a species to stand on the edge of extinction, and what we can still do to change that future.

An endangered species is one at serious risk of disappearing forever. For elephants, that risk is real. All three species—the African savanna elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant—are now classified as endangered or critically endangered due to habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching.
But there is hope.
At the International Elephant Foundation, our motto is: “Endangered Species? Not if we can help it.”
Every protected habitat, every community partnership, and every elephant life saved brings us closer to a future where elephants thrive, not just survive.

This Endangered Species Day, stand with us. Together, we can ensure that elephants remain a living, breathing part of our world—for generations to come.
With Gratitude,
The IEF Team
