Conservation Chat with Drs. Josh Schiffman & Lisa Abbeglen

Thursday, September 25th, 9am PDT/11am CST

The next talk in our Conservation Chat series is going to be pretty special. Did you know that elephants rarely get cancer? Drs. Josh Schiffman and Lisa Abegglen were the ones who discovered why, and they will be our guests on Thursday, September 25th at 9am PDT/11am CST.

Drs. Schiffman and Abegglen lead a translational research lab focused on cancer susceptibility and resistance across species. They are internationally recognized for discovering that elephants have extra copies of the TP53 gene, which may help protect them from cancer. Their current research investigates immune responses—particularly neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)—in EEHV, with the goal of informing both elephant conservation and human medicine. Drs. Schiffman and Abegglen will discuss their latest research into how NETs may contribute to EEHV hemorrhagic disease—and how this knowledge can inform treatment strategies and conservation efforts.

You do not want to miss this talk! It is free to attend; register here.
